TAKE NOTE that jeans, jandals, crocs (and similar footwear) are not acceptable in the bush or on the mountains.
WHAT TO TAKE ON A DAY TRIP All gear should be packed in plastic bags and / or a plastic pack-liner. You can use a heavy-duty plastic rubbish sack to line your day pack.
ESSENTIAL CLOTHING Boots or strong running shoes, wool socks, shorts, thermal or quick-dry shirt, wool jersey, waterproof rain coat, wool hat or balaclava, wool gloves or mittens, sunhat, sunglasses.
Gaiters or puttees, over-trousers.
ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT Day pack, lunch, drink, spare food, e.g. muesli bars (in case you are delayed), personal medication, sunscreen, whistle, toilet paper, head-lamp / torch (plus spare bulb and batteries).
EXTRA EQUIPMENT Personal first-aid kit, survival blanket, pocket knife, paper and pencil, insect repellent, a length of cord.
IN THE BUS Change of clothes and footwear for the trip home, Plastic bags for wet clothing and dirty boots. Note, polypropylene and polar fleece are acceptable alternatives to wool. Please name all clothing and gear.
